July 2013 Flow n’ Load Surveys
KD Environmental was recently commissioned to conduct flow and load surveys for the planned new treatment works by Longford County Council at Drumlish, Co. Longford. This survey provided the local authorities with valuable information and statistics regarding the volume of wastewater and concentration of key parameters. This information is essential in determining the required capacity of the new wastewater treatment works and assuring wastewater is treated to an acceptable standard in the future.

March 2013 Occupational exposure to crystalline silica dust occurs in many industries including: quarrying, mining, mineral processing, construction and demolition work. Where concrete, stone or sand based materials are used, there is potential for exposure to crystalline silica dust. Inhalation of fine dust containing crystalline silica can cause lung damage (silicosis), which in severe cases can be disabling, or even fatal. Silicosis is irreversible and treatment options are limited. Workers may develop any of three types of silicosis, depending on the concentration of airborne silica: Chronic silicosis, Accelerated silicosis or acute silicosis. The respirable fraction of the dust is invisibly fine and the OELV for Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) is 0.1mg/m3 averaged over 8 hours as set down in the H.S.A. Chemical Agents Code of Practice. KD Environmental provide this service and for more information contact David on (049) 8543471
November 2012 Legionella Risk Assessments: Legionnaires’ disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia. People may get infected when they breathe in tiny water droplets or droplet particles left after the water has evaporated contaminated with elevated concentrations of Legionella bacteria. Legionella bacteria grow best between temperatures of 20°C – 45°C with optimum growth temperature being 35°C – 40°C. High temperatures (minimum 60°C) kill the bacteria. Showers, eyewash stations, spa pools, sprinkler systems, cooling towers and power hoses are potential sources of elevated levels of legionella bacteria.Under the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work Act, 2007, employers are required to perform a Legionella Risk Assessment and Survey. August 2012 Vibration Monitoring: EU Directive 2002/44/EC requires that employers ensure that health risks posed by Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) and Whole Body Vibration (WBV) are reduced or eliminated. Health risks include damage to the tissue of the hand and arms leading to problems such as 'white finger syndrome', muscular skeletal harm, lower back pain and sensory function disorders. The EU directive sets Emission Action and Emission Limit Values for vibration. Employers must legally comply with these limits. KD Environmental has extensive experience and knowledge in this area. May 2012 New NG4 Guidance Document: The EPA has recently published a new Noise Guidance document NG4. This requires increased noise monitoring durations for existing license holders and introduces evening time noise for new licencees. KD Environmental has the resources to meet new noise criteria without leading to large monitoring cost increases. For a competitive quote contact us on (049) 8543471
